Timeline
1846
George Stearns and Seth Foster opened their first factory outside of Cincinnati in Lockland, Ohio. The young company began by making cotton felt for mattresses and other products, eventually developing their own line of mattresses. It was here that the traditions of beauty and fine craftsmanship began.
The Early 1900's
Stearns & Foster took an unprecedented step for a bedding manufacturer: it brought in renowned stylists, artists and designers, such as Ben Nash and Ethel Parsons, to form a design committee. They began incorporating influences from 18th century damasks, Wedgwood pottery and other classical and romantic elements into their designs.
1930's and 40's
Stearns & Foster uses advertising to educate consumers on the link between mattress quality and better sleep.
1994
Stearns & Foster reengineers and reintroduces their entire product line, creating a new luxury category in bedding and gaining an unprecedented 97% customer satisfaction rating.
2005
Stearns & Foster launches the Comfort Bridge – a unique new construction that works in harmony with the foam-encased innerspring system and the comfort layers in the top of the mattress to absorb motion and create a consistent feel across the bed. It allows the mattress to maintain that "new bed feel" year after year.
2011
Stearns & Foster again offers two levels of luxury sleep in their Core and Estate collections.
The Core Collection is Stearns & Foster's entry level to their luxury line of fine sleep sets, however, make no mistake, the level of quality and attention to detail in their tailoring far surpasses what's offered in other manufacturer's so called "premium lines". In the parlance of the automotive world, these beds could be known as the "Baby Benz" of the bedding industry.
Using only the finest materials, these sleep sets are designed to provide years of restful, comfortable sleep. The wood and steel foundation, available in two heights to accommodate proper profile with older, classic furniture, is engineered to extend the comfort life of the mattress by absorbing the shock that causes wear and tear over many years of use in much the same way padding does under carpeting.
Beneath all the elegant, supple, knitted ticking (fabric) and multiple layers of stress absorbing padding and upholstery are 825 (queen density) tempered steel, heave gage, individually pocked, high profile coil springs. Pocketed coils closely match your body's contours, providing firm support while minimizing pressure and limiting movement transfer, thus assuring you the ultimate in restful, undisturbed slumber. They're encased in a foam enclosure to mitigate edge wear and provide additional usable sleep area so you can lie close to the edge without that "rolling off the bed" feeling.
Select your personal level of comfort from ultra firm to ultra plush in pillow top or tight top to suit your individual sleep needs.
